12/08/11: Webcast Replay: Windows 7 Preparedness: What You Don't Know WILL Hurt You

Recorded: Thursday, December 8, 2011
Speaker: Don Jones, MVP and Senior Partner, Concentrated Technology

Desktop migrations. A topic we haven't had to deal with for quite a long time has rolled back around. Remember deploying Windows XP? It got pretty painful, between hardware compatibility, software compatibility, and so on. Your Windows 7 migration has the opportunity to create the same pain, unless you get some real, up-front knowledge about your network, desktops, and software inventory. Configuration management tools are a start in the right direction – but they're not the whole answer. Don Jones, Microsoft MVP and author of the Redmond magazine “Decision Maker” column, will help shed some light on the subject.

In addition to getting answers to the questions you submit during the show, Don will explore some of the problems that BDNA has seen in real customer environments, and discuss some of the core capabilities that have helped solve those problems. There's no product pitch in this webcast, just real answers to real questions that hit right at the heart of a Windows 7 migration's major risks.

11/30/11: Webcast Replay: A Windows 7 Migration is the Perfect Time to Normalize, not Standardize

Recorded: November 30, 2011
Speakers: Don Jones, MVP and Senior Partner, Concentrated Technology
Abstract: Reduced costs. Lower overhead. Easier maintenance. Better reliability. All reasons why IT departments have typically tried to create and maintain a “standardized desktop” for their users. Typically based upon a small number of “standard images,” the corporate desktop can be very flexible, or allow very little wiggle room, depending on the organization. Client operating system upgrades and migrations are typically the time when IT re-visits the standard, creating new images that will hopefully help achieve all of those goals for the next few years. But perhaps your Windows 7 migration should be different.

Rather than creating a new standardized desktop, you should focus on creating a normalized desktop. It isn’t all that different, but it can make all the difference in the world. It’s even something a smart systems integrator can help you do, if you don’t have the resources to tackle it on your own.

In this webcast industry analyst and IT guru Don Jones will cover:
  • Windows 7 Migrations: A Fresh Start
  • Lower. Better. Easier. It’s the Company Standard Desktop!
  • The Problem with Standards
  • This Year, Don’t Standardize. Normalize
  • The Benefits of a Normalized Desktop
  • What Do the Pros Do?

10/20/11: Webcast Replay: Redmondmag.com – The Suite Life of Software ... and it's Impact on Your Windows 7 Migration

When: October 20, 2011 at 11:00am Pacific
Speaker: Don Jones, MVP, Concentrated Tech & Mark A. Buscaglia, VP, mPower Managed Services
Abstract: The Suite Life of Software ... and it's Impact on Your Windows 7 Migration
Professional. Master Suite. Ultimate. Enterprise. Software suites come in so many different flavors and varieties, it's a wonder even their vendors can keep track of them all, let alone us. But we're the ones paying for them, and those suites can often be more expensive than we realize. Is everyone really using every component you've paid for and deployed? If not, your Windows 7 migration might be an excellent time to rationalize what you're paying for. After all, you'll be touching every computer anyway - why not save some money (or even pay for the migration) by reconfiguring the suites that your users have?

Industry expert Don Jones looks at some of the techniques and capabilities you'll need in order to really put your software suite licensing on a diet! Register now!

The latest generations of IT Asset Management visibility tools can be abundant sources of information used by many people in different functions--accounting, compliance, e-commerce, environmental sustainability and others--around the organization. However, the abundance of information can become too much of a good thing if is ambiguous, non-uniform, unrelated to context or simply too voluminous for human comprehension. Very often, answers that functional managers need are buried in haystacks of raw IT inventory and configuration data.

In this webcast, we will look at the challenges faced by IT Asset Management professionals when using tools designed to support IT operations to gain insight into their environments, how to manage and control the volume of raw data, and distill what's relevant for ITAM and other enterprise management disciplines.
